The Blaine Jaycees started the "Blaine July
4th Celebration" back in 1969. The festival name was then changed to
Blaine's Blazin' 4th shortly thereafter. Over the years, it became
difficult to secure carnivals and vendors because the 4th of July lands on a
different day of the week each year. The committee had to pick a recurring
weekend to hold the festival. They chose the "4th" weekend of June for the
festival, with fireworks still on the "4th" of July. Hence the "4th" in
Blaine's Blazin' 4th now has a dual meaning.
The Jaycees still play an important role in the
city festival. In addition to being the largest financial supporter, some
of our members
are on the Blaine's Blazin' 4th committee, and are involved with the
planning and organization of the festival. We also run the beer garden and
some of the food concessions. If you would like to help out with the
festival in any way, just contact us.
The main attractions of the festival will be the parade on
Saturday at Noon, free outdoor concerts on Friday, Saturday and Sunday,
and a sensational fireworks show at the National Sports Center on July 4th.
